How long does company formation take in the UAE?
Most free zone licences are issued within 3–7 working days once documents are submitted. Mainland formation typically takes 1–2 weeks depending on activity and approvals, and offshore structures can often be completed in under a week. EHMC manages the timeline end to end so there are no surprises.
What is the difference between mainland, free zone and offshore?
A mainland licence lets you trade anywhere in the UAE and take on government contracts. A free zone licence offers 100% foreign ownership within a designated zone, often with tax incentives. Offshore companies are used for holding assets or international trade and cannot operate inside the UAE. We help you match the structure to how you actually plan to do business.
Do I need a local sponsor to set up a company in Dubai?
Not for most activities. UAE law now permits 100% foreign ownership for the majority of mainland business activities, and free zones have always allowed full foreign ownership. A small number of strategic sectors still require a local partner — we confirm this for your specific activity before you commit.
What documents do I need to start the process?
Typically a passport copy, passport-size photo, proposed company name options, and a description of your business activity. Depending on the jurisdiction, additional documents such as a business plan, NOC or attested degree may apply. We provide a checklist specific to your chosen structure at the consultation stage.
